Ah, the sun!

For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, sunlight in winter can be a fragile thing, often fleeting, here one moment and gone the next, to return one knows not when. So when the days begin to get a touch longer and the sun chooses to surprise when least expected and blast its merry way into the fabric of a day, well, it’s a rather lovely thing.

Today, there was sun!

With the sun come thoughts of Spring. And with thoughts of Spring, we must have thoughts of gardens! To ponder, to plan, to create anew. Whether flower or vegetable, bush or herb, the idea of flourishing fruitful beauty waxes most poetic to the winter heart that longs for a balmy breezy afternoon, a salad fresh from the soil, and a petal or two of buds to enhance the mood. Of course waxing poetic brings with it tones of love.

And tones of love, when dwelt upon for more than a millisecond, carry with them endless possibilities of a life full of magic and wonder. One kissed by the fairies and blessed by the angels. And a bite or two of chocolate too (of the dark variety, obviously).

Thus come thoughts of a garden of love. But of course!!

So if you’re feeling kissed by sunlight, drink from the cup of its beauty and magic to the very depths of your being, allow the love that bubbles up from within to flow forth from your imaginative heart like a waterfall of shimmering light – and enjoy the day.

For love is the answer to all things. And a garden tended with love can turn the whole world into a blessed thing.

Where Then The Heart
                   By Aliana Alani ©2019

Here they are now –
Veils lifting, slowly, gently
Like the flutter of angelic wings
Whispering in clear air.

Softly, a sunlight enters –
Early morning dusting of
Luminescent light, golden
Essence particles, divine and shimmering.

And where are we
In these moments of discovery?
Looking out, heart open, eager and expectant,
Or hard-pressed to the cacophony
Floor of drama and despair?

Are we searching for crumbs
Or infinite possibilities?

Where then the heart, in these moments
Of whisperings and glimmerings,
And more…

As the sun begins its shine upon the morning,
Sending flecks of gold light along its path,
I find myself grateful.

Grateful for the budding warmth.
Grateful for the birdsong building.
Grateful for this garden of life,
You and I call – home.

A slow-turning globe of endless beauty.
A world that dazzles with its diversity
And humbles with its call to greatness.

Yes, things sometimes fall away.
They can crumble and burn unexpectedly
Or ebb and tide when least desired.

Tears fall then. Hearts crack open.
And when they do, before we know,
Before we understand,
New life has begun.

Rebirth
A new dawn
And the garden, more abundant than before

Our garden –

                A garden of Love.

A tiny tale…

A Tiny Tale … from The Garden …. ©Aliana Alani 2018

This tiny tale comes from The Garden. It is affectionately called: BULB TO BULB – a tiny Autumn Discourse.

autumn leaves

Before I go into it, let me just say this about that. The weather – as it can so often be relied upon to do – is changing. At least here in the land of maple syrup. Not so much if you happen to be on the East Coast, nor if you happen to be on the fringes of the West. But if you happen to be anywhere East of the West or West of the East, let alone in the mid of the Middle, well then, changing, it is. And not, from my point of view, for the better. Why? COLD. I am aware that it is an almost existential part of life in the country in which I live, but how many people do you know who actually cherish it? Okay, some like it, some put up with it, some even snowshoe in it – but cherish? Exactly.

So, it’s getting colder, already. There have even been flakes of white stuff spotted in the mid of the Middle. And the Rockies, those towering peaks of magnificence are currently blanketed with it. It has even had the audacity to flutter and fall over the vineyards of the Okanagan. I mean, is nothing sacred?!

Therefore, it seemed appropriate that I write some little diddy (that’s a tiny tiny) to acknowledge, the moment. I might have let it go, had it, the diddy, not woken me up at 4 in the morning. Lacking the courage to roll over and go back to sleep, I dutifully wrote it down.

And so, without further adieu (don’t you just love that word), here is:

autumn landscape

BULB TO BULB – a tiny Autumn Discourse

“It’s that time again,” said the Tulip Bulb, heaving a sigh. “I suppose.” Replied the Daffodil Bulb, somewhat distracted. “Under the ground then.” The Tulip Bulb added, as much a statement as a question. The Daffodil Bulb answered, rather sagely. “The Inner Earth, most likely.” “Cold there, I imagine.” Said the Tulip, remembering. “Soon enough.” Chimed the Daffodil. Pondering that, the Daff of Bulb added, “Brought your thermals, have you?” Beaming, the Bulb of Tulip said, “Got them specially! Guaranteed to keep a bulb cozy in the damp of dark.” “Brilliant. Frightfully clever of you. Know where I can get some? I almost froze my skins off last year.” “No worries,” said the Bulb of Tulip, “I’ve got extra. I’ll share.” “AH,” said the Daffodil Bulb, “you’re a good friend, so you are.”

And with that, they wrapped themselves up all nice and cozy in the very centre of those luscious thermals and began to softly slowly plunge into the earth to await the coming of the snows.

“Spring time, then.” Said the Tulip, its voice receding as it sank. “In Spring.” Came the muffled voice of the Daffodil.

And then they could be heard no more.

THE END … no, not really.

No Goddess Likes To Be Ignored

by Aliana Alani ©2018

She enters your world like the goddess she is
Late or early, one knows not which
She has her own sense of time
Her own way

A flick of red-gold
A puff of smoke
Flirtatious, at first

She enters
And you pay her no mind, silly you
No goddess likes to be ignored

She beats the drum of her inner womb
Until you turn and look her way
Beats some more until you think – enough
But she has just begun

She’s claiming ground now
Caressing skin
Searching for the heart
Taking what is hers
What you thought was yours, silly you

Rumbling along the path of your tomorrows
Cracking wide the green of your todays
Filling the spaces, red-hot and wild

Call her if you can, if you will
But do not speak her name in vain
No goddess likes that either

Say to her only this:
I see you and I remember
Say:
Let us live in harmony, you and I
Say:
Aloha, Pele, Aloha, Aloha, Aloha

Life is like a garden…

??????????????

LIFE IS LIKE A GARDEN…

by Aliana Alani ©2018

LIFE IS LIKE A GARDEN. Granted we don’t always see it that way but if you think about it, really think about it – it is. So look around you. What do you see?

If it’s a garden in your yard, you might see blooming flowers, unless of course it’s the beginning of Spring in which case you may be looking at dead grass and last year’s we’ve-lost-all-our-glow autumn leaves. However, you might also see a fledgling little popup of green here or there, which is good news, because those would be the bulbs you planted last fall now getting ready to burst upon the scene with much desired vibrant colour. The thought of which makes a person smile. It’s got to. Who doesn’t love colour after a long white winter?

And if it’s the garden of your yard, you know that all there is to do is get out there with that rake, scoop up all those dead leaves, turn over the soil in those flower beds, and yup, plant a few flowers. And then, voilà, you have yourself a beauteous landscape of a backyard, guaranteed to touch your heart, and garner admiration from your neighbours all summer long.

Now – If it’s the garden of your life and all you see around you is dead grass, then you have a bit of work to do. Dead grass in your personal garden is a wakeup call. For just like your backyard garden needs a little TLC now and then (that’s tender loving care for those of you who might not remember), so does the garden of your life.

Dead grass brings with it questions. The obvious one being – where is the life? That’s a question bordering on the existential which could take you forever to answer if you’re not careful so give yourself permission to hear the sound bite version! And then we have – how long has it been since you’ve seeded it with dreams of possibility? Those are the Yes I Can dreams you’ve held close to your heart for so long. How long since you’ve watered your life with love? If you’re having trouble locating the watering can then you’ve got your answer to that one. If there’s a lot of dead grass then chances are you’ve either ignored your garden, perhaps completely, or fed it consciously or not with thoughts of anguish, doubt, or despair. Oh dear.

Your opportunity, should you choose to accept it, is to cast an eye (two if you’re feeling really brave) around the garden of your life and see what you find. If it’s an endless field of dead stuff, then ask yourself why. The next course of action is obviously the rake, the shovel, or the rototiller. But before you go using the rototiller, we should probably talk.

More Life is a Garden thoughts to come, so tune in again!

Miracles…

                               by: Aliana Alani ©2016

Today I pray for miracles.Digital Camera

Miracles for this world, for you, and me. Miracles that can turn the tide of being, here and now.

Whether for good health or well-being, for money midst dire or stressful situations, or for a caring voice during the passing of what has been or who has been with you. I pray for miracles.

I pray for the miracle of a shining light – the light that comes from that deep space within, the Eternal flame of who we truly are. I pray for this light to miraculously illuminate the path we now walk, no matter who we are or where we are, that we may see beyond the confusion and the folly that spins like a tempest upon the seas of our world, and find the courage to walk a path of love and understanding instead.

I pray for the miracle of love – divine and everlasting – to attend us all today; to unblock a frightened heart, heal a wounded soul, and mend a fractured mind.

I pray for miracles – that we may have eyes to see and ears to hear – that, miraculously, we might turn and realize what many who seldom walk this world have always known – that here sits a bit of heaven – a garden of love – a world of plenty and of light. I pray for the miracle of that knowing, and the audacity to live its truth.

I pray for miracles. I pray for love.

It’s our Day of Love

single-red-rose-3As many of you know, each Sunday I call on all of us to help MAKE SUNDAY A DAY OF LOVE. I’ve been doing this for a few weeks. During such times, we express and send love into our world, close friends or not. We share kindness and compassion where we can. We celebrate the day with a prayer that such  love might go on forever.

This week, the Love is for YOU.

No matter where you are, YOU matter. No matter what you look like, how you dress (or don’t), how you share the magic of your days, YOU matter.

It is often easier to give love to others. And yet without drinking from the Well of Love ourselves, how can we truly share that love with the world?

It is time to nourish our own inner gardens. Celebrate our inner beauty. Honor our inner wisdom and knowing. And allow ourselves, each and every one of us, to blossom into the magnificent gardens of love we were always meant to be.

After all – to be a tad poetic – YOU are the breeze that wafts within tall trees, the golden leaves that fall in Autumn, the slender buds that bloom in Spring. YOU are the rippling waters of a gentle pond and the crashing waves midst a stormy sea. YOU are today and tomorrow NOW. YOU are the reflections of those around you, the reflection of yourself in life’s slender mirror. YOU are an endless garden, an open heart, a robin’s song. YOU are all these things and so much more.

LOVE YOU. Why? Because YOU matter.

So go ahead, make today, SUNDAY, the day YOU LOVE YOU.
